About The Network

Since we funded our first venture in 2017, we have deployed over $32 million across 34 companies, forming one of the most successful university-affiliated angel networks in the nation. We have had several successful exits in that time frame and a couple failures which is expected in this investment category. The current IRR for the overall portfolio is just over 14%.

The University has empowered us to promote entrepreneurship with their financial support, educational programs from which we draw interns and connections to various leaders and academics within the ecosystem. Over the years we have recruited over 450 alumni to join CAN and they offer their time and connections to our portfolio companies. They and we are part of the team that provides value-add way past the funding.

If you are affiliated with Carolina in some way, we would love to welcome you to our family, and offer two levels of membership (Full and Associate).

Full

To become a Full member, you must meet the SEC’s definition of an Accredited Investor. Full membership is our highest level entitling you to invest in our professionally diligenced portfolio, join our member network of over 500 people and participate in our educational and social events. There is no requirement to invest in our deals as you make your own decision on each. We offer 6-8 deals per year in which you may participate directly with the founders and listen in as members offer opinions and thoughtful questions. If you do choose to invest, there is a minimum of $5000 per deal.

Full membership dues are $1,500 and renews annually.

Associate

If you are new to early stage investing, we recommend this membership category. You can learn the best practices of diligence and decision criteria in early-stage investing. And connect to those in the network who have considerable experience in this investment category. You do not need to qualify as an Accredited Investor as you are not able to invest but you will follow the progress and diligence of each deal.

You will be invited to 6-8 deal meetings with potential investment companies in which the full members actively interact with the founders and then debate the pros and cons of the company. You will also receive free membership to the Angel Capital Association (ACA), the world’s largest community of angel investors

Associate membership dues are $350 and renews annually. At the end of the second year, you must choose to join as a Full member.

An affiliate is an alum, current or former faculty member, current or former employee, current or former student, or a spouse, parent, child, or grandparent or grandchild of a Carolina student or alum. The key is are you dedicated to the success of Carolina!!!
